Former US President Donald Trump has changed his tune on Bitcoin, shifting from calling the largest cryptocurrency a “scam” to acknowledging its widespread use. Trump shared his updated views on Bitcoin in a recent CNBC interview.
Bitcoin’s price surged to a high of $72,226 on Monday, coinciding with Trump’s comments. In an interview with CNBC Squawk Box, the former president expressed a more positive outlook on Bitcoin.
This marks a significant departure from his previous stance in 2021 when he labeled Bitcoin a “scam” and warned about its potential impact on the US Dollar’s status as a global reserve currency.
Trump’s latest comments suggest a shift in his perspective on Bitcoin. He noted that the cryptocurrency has seen significant adoption and stated, “There has been a lot of use of that, and I’m not sure I’d want to take it away at this point.” He also mentioned that he would “sometimes let people pay” with Bitcoin.
In a related development, the price of MAGACoin (TRUMP) surged by nearly 26% on Monday. Market participants speculated that the price increase was driven by anticipation of Trump’s potential victory in the 2024 presidential race.
The anticipation of Trump’s potential return to office has led to the creation of several meme coins in the Solana ecosystem. However, investors should exercise caution as these meme coins carry high risk and could result in significant losses if not thoroughly researched before investing.
